I am a huge sucker for stencils and love to use them in cards as well as my mixed media work, I will be showcasing more techniques and different ways to use them here as well as on the Altenew Mixed Media blog!
I apologise in advance, that this post might be photo heavy because in true Tania style: I couldn’t stop making projects, haha! I’ve condensed the card photos into groups as I know there are many stops on this hop!
I love hearing which projects are your favourites and if there are any techniques that I’ve shared pique your interest, do let me know.

These cards were made with the Geometric Landscape Stencil which I sprayed with Ocean Waves Shimmer Ink Spray! I used the ink that was left on the stencil to “stamp” on to another card stock panel so that I wasn’t wasting any leftover ink and created two very easy cards stamped with the Adore You Stamp Set and topped off with a few Sea Shore Enamel Dots.
Typography designs are my absolute favourite kind of stencils and creating this no-stamp-card was very easy to create with the Alphabet Stencil plus a few other products: Ink Blending Tools, Jet Black Dye Ink, Razzleberry Dye Ink! I simply masked off the “HI” and added in my blending with the Ink Blending Tools. Simple, graphic and bold!
For the first card, I used Embossing Paste through the Trellis Stencil and before it dried I sprinkle White Crisp Embossing Powder over it and heat set it. This was because I wanted the Trellis design to stand out against the background. In hindsight, I think I could have inked the panel first and embossed afterwards, ha! But, if I think about it, I loved how some of the ink from the Autumn Brush and Rubellite Marker dried over the embossing powder and made it look extra grungy. To make the card, I used Evening Gray Brush Marker to add the dots to the background of a card blank. I then die cut the embossed panel with Terrific Tags Die Set and assembled the whole card using a sentiment from Script Words Die and Warm and Cosy Enamel Dots.
The second card was made by doodling through the Trellis Stencil with a black fine liner and the background was created with the Autumn Blaze Brush Marker.
So to summarise the 5 ways to use stencils are:
Using embossing paste through a stencil
Ink Blending with stencils
Spraying mists through a stencil
Doodling the stencil outline
Taking a monoprint or “stamping” with the stencil
They’re not new techniques, but it’s always fun to revisit different ways to use your supplies!

The techniques used sure don’t always have to be new ones to come up with interesting & unique looks & design on cards. I really like the first two especially using the Geometric Landscape stencil. Mind you, they are some of my favourite colours, so that may have something to do with it. lol

Such fun cards! I think the first set is my favorite; I really like how you used the “dirty” side of the stencil after you used it for the first card, to make the design on the second card. But the powder embossing paste is a really cool card too! Hmmm – I guess I’ll have to try them all and figure out which I like best! Thank you for sharing!!
