Can anyone else relate?

I swear there is an art gremlin in my room that likes to mysteriously move my gel printing things all over the place 😭😭😭

⋆ I bought a gel plate and haven't opened it for months.

Let me tell you a story: when the Gelli Arts gel plate came out in 2011, it was everywhere, it was the latest craze. I bought the gel plate ... and then never opened it 🙈

I thought I didn't have the time, and the thought of using it overwhelmed me.

And when I did make my first prints, they looked nothing like the pretty pictures I saw online.

My paint was drying too fast, my colours looked like mud and my paper was sticking to my gel plate. I put it away and didn't touch it for years.

In 2018, recovering from burnout, I pulled my gel plate out again. By this time I had a second plate. I needed a creative outlet that didn't demand perfection from me. I really started paying attention to colour theory, techniques, reading books, blogs, watching tons of videos and making thousands of prints.

Slowly I got better, until I found a style that felt like me, the colours reflected me and made my heart sing. I made prints with textures and objects that were inspired by my roots, interests, hope and dreams.

I began to tell myself a new story: of how my art mattered.

That it was important for everyone to tell their own story in their own way by developing their own visual vocabulary.

And so:

StoryPrinter was born: the course i wish existed when i first started gel printing.
