Gel Print January Day 15: Fibre

Waaaahhh how is it the end of January already, it flew by in a flury of activity and life happening!

Textiles, fibre and string are some of my favourite textures to use in gel printing because when you get that paint thickness and tackiness juuuussstt right, the pulled gel print looks almost 3D which does quite translate so well on camera.

Today was not a clean hand day 😂😂😂

I want to say thank you to everyone who took part in the challenge and took the time to comment and share not just my content but also uplift other participants too 🙏🏾

I am so incredibly lucky to have a community of kind hearted, like minded creatives, which i think is something we all need right now.

Gel Print January Day 14: Tape

I can't believe we are coming towards the end of this challenge, it has been so refreshing to gel print regularly, have fun, experiment and really embrace the wabi sabi philosophy of beauty in imperfection.

I dropped my paper on the gel plate and got a smudge on where i didn't want it to be ... I could have redone this short video and made a new "perfect " print but i let this remain as is, to show you that not all prints go to plan, and even seasoned gel printers make "mistakes"!

I am choosing to learn from this experience and know that i can transform it with another acrylic paint layer or crop it or keep it as is, to reminder to be kind to myself as i am my own worst critic 🙈

I loved the geometric pattern, i loved the colours, and i will be repeating this technique with washi tape to produce even more prints. You can make super complex patterns or even a plaid design!

Gel Print January Day 13: Word

I adore using words and typography in my gel prints and art. This is why i have a collection of alphabet stencils, and stamps, both handmade and ones I have purchased.

I found these stencils in the children's craft section of a pound shop, many years ago! I love that i have both the positive and negative to use as masks or a stencil to spell out my own words. I also have been loving using colours that are a sharp contrast to each other which creates a really bold effect.

Gel Print January Day 12: Patina

Grunge Gel Printing and Delicious Layers 🔥

This is one of my favourite ways to gel print: messy, colourful and textures with the right balance of paint picky-uppy-ness.

Getting the paint thickness right and ensuring it is neither too dry or too wet allows you to create gel printed layers that let other acrylic paint colours peek through... creating this worn patina like effect ✨️

Gel Print January Day 11: Fold

I think the amount of times I kept saying wow during this gel printing process was getting a bit ridiculous, I WAS SO HAPPY with how this print turned out!!!!!

I've been mulling over how to print with origami on a gel plate and I knew that this prompt was perfect to execute the idea thag had been knocking around in my brain for a while.

I was grinning like a paint covered gremlin when I finally pulled this print, the details are S T U N N I N G ...!

Gel Print January Day 10: Press

Using my beloved wooden block prints from my growing collection that I have been growing slowly over the years. They make me so happy and remind me of the clothes that I grew up wearing in Pakistan.

I adore how this print turned out, the colour combination of the light gold and the blue acrylic paint was chef's kiss 😍 and pattern building makes my heart dance with joy!

I was definitely seal clapping deliriously happy after this gel print pulled.

Gel Print January Day 9: Trace

Tracing with acrylic paint markers by Arrtx with an Islamic geometric design pattern underneath.

I love using acrylic markers on a gel plate as they pick up so well and it adds another layer of fun to the print. Plus tracing can be done with any other pictures too, and it's a great way to practice your drawing skills too :)

You can use all kinds of markers on a gel plate including permanent or alcohol markers as well!
