Altenew May 2020 Washi Tapes Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

May 19, 2020

Hey Friends!

Welcome to Altenew’s May 2020 Washi Tapes Release Blog Hop! Today I am sharing a LOT of projects (apologies in advance) using this bright and happy rainbow filled collection. I love this All the Colors Release collection so much, that I had to make myself stop making more projects!

You’ve arrived here from my phenomenally talented friend Vicky Papaioannou‘s blog and if you would like to take part in the full blog hop, you can start from Altenew’s Card Blog here. If you have washi tape in your stash, you will find a ton of inspiration from the very talented Altenew Design Team on different and unique ways on how you can use it.

I have a thing for anything rainbow, so working with this new collection was an absolute treat for me, and I went a little crazy making happy cards which I already have plans to send out to friends and family. One of my guilty pleasures is washi tape, which is one crafty thing that I can’t seem to be able to resist!

They looked so pretty as they are, I couldn’t not take a photo of them laid out on my craft mat!

The collection consists of 10 washi tapes, the rainbow coloured ones are available as a separate bundle if you want to get the whole collection.

I feel that you can’t really go wrong with a neutral tape like Many Dots Washi Tape to add as an element to your projects. Neutral washi tapes are perfect to offset bright colours. I stamped flowers from the Precious Blooms Stamp Set in Fresh Lemon and Jet Black. The stamped sentiment is from the Sentiment Strips 2 Stamp Set.

Just adding that Many Dots Washi Tape to the top half of my cardstock panel helps to break up the design a little bit with the flowers adding that pop of colour.

Sometimes when you have a washi tape as beautiful as the Instant Rainbow Washi Tape, you don’t need much in the way of embellishment. I often like to keep things simple and just let the supplies I am using shine.

I laid the Instant Rainbow Washi Tape down at a diagonal on my cardstock panel and then lined up another piece to almost get a repeat pattern to fill the space. I used my craft mat to help me line up the tape so it all matched up! I finished my card with the same Sentiment Strips 2 Stamp Set and Obsidian Pigment Ink.

I used Instant Rainbow Washi Tape again in this card, but without extending the pattern and just added a simple flower outline from the Wild Flora Stamp Set which I die cut with the matching die.

Sometimes all you need to add is a simple element to a bright and bold background to make it sing! Do you ever have projects that make you clap your hands with glee? I was pretty much seal-clapping when I finished making this card, haha!

This card was made with the Narrow Rainbow Washi Tape which I added behind my die-cut word “Friend” which I made using the Fine Alphabet Die set, for a graphic look. I lined up my die-cuts on my craft mat face down to make sure they were equidistant from each other and then used tape to pick them all up and make sure they didn’t move around while I was die-cutting.

I layered the Narrow Rainbow Washi Tape twice to form a longer strip to fit behind my die cut words. When I first get new products, I like to have a play with them to check out the variations in design that I can get with the supplies. A lot of these cards were made with the “tests” that I made when I first got my hands on these tapes.

As I had taken the time to line up my alphabet dies so carefully, I used them again in my second card on top of a panel where I had used the Block Rainbow Washi Tape. I turned this into a shaker card using Altenew’s Satin White Sequins and some micro glass beads that I already had.

Here’s a closer look at the finished card. The sentiment is also stamped with the Sentiment Strips 2 Stamp Set! I love making cards like these where there is a lot of white space and balances the look of bold elements.

This last card was actually made with the Geo Rainbow Washi Tape. I stuck down a long strip of the tape onto cardstock and cut the tape diagonally and then glued them down by offsetting the pattern and line up with white parts, and glued them down. I cut the whole thing again into horizontal strips and glue them down into the mosaic pattern that you see here.

This card will probably give you an insight into my crazy brain that loves pattern, tiles and geometry! I plan on making a video which would probably explain better how I got this pattern!

Phew, you’ve made it to the end of the post! Did you have a favourite card from the six that I made? Let me know in the comments down below. Thank you so much for joining us on the blog hop!

Your next stop is the amazing Norine Borys!

All your cards are wonderful. For some reason, I am most drawn to the black and white washi tape cards. Maybe because I’ve been making masculine cards, but I find the florals with the black and white are just so stunning! And yellow and black look so great together.
